If passions could cancel worry

If passions could cancel worry,
I promise i'd demand it.
Unable to muster such a balance,
unable to reorder the world,
the best i can do --
conceal all doubt,
all sadness,
all of this bitter
concern --
And plead love,
sing gratitude,
Open my arms in this long delayed
But the cost comes despite,
And i am left one step outside your embrace,
playing the watchman to our reunion
guarding our remounting gates
from a vantage characterized
by steady confusion
and thickness of guilt,
for not loving you better,
not loving you well
